The Cody Byrns Foundation for Burn Survivors’ was established to provide reconstructive surgeries and ongoing therapeutic support to burn survivors who are in desperate need. Such procedures are very costly, and insurance companies will only pay so much.
Oftentimes, the cost barrier leaves burn survivors stuck in their circumstances, and this is where the Foundation comes in: providing the funds necessary to cover the cost of these surgeries as well as their hospital stay, transportation to the Richard M. Fairbanks Burn Unit in Indianapolis, and by providing family accommodations during the patient’s treatment and rehab. The Foundation will also supply gift baskets filled with gift cards, snacks, and other resources designed to help both patient and family.
Dr. Rajiv Sood is the plastic surgeon and burn specialist whom God sent to save Cody’s life. Over the past 25 years, Dr. Sood has changed the lives of over 7,000 burn patients and has built a storied reputation among his peers along the way. As a result of Dr. Sood’s connection and subsequent journey with Cody’s recovery, he has volunteered his services as chief surgeon and medical consultant for The Cody Byrns Foundation.
Burn injury is a tragedy unlike any other. As rehabilitation happens simultaneously on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level, the Foundation’s work will also seek to connect and establish friendships between other survivors and their families. In an effort to provide a source of inspiration and the motivation to move on following a severe burn injury, the Foundation actively facilitates attendance at burn camps and conferences with other burn survivors to further enhance the lifelong process of recovery.
